About e-Shram Portal
The e-Shram portal has been developed by the Ministry of Labour & Employment for creating a National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW). The primary objective is to register and support unorganized workers across the country.
Each registered unorganized worker is issued an e-Shram card with a unique 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN). This card will help in the delivery of various social security schemes being implemented by the Central and State Governments.
Eligibility Criteria for e-Shram Registration
- Must be an unorganized worker. An unorganized worker is any worker who is a home-based worker, self-employed worker or a wage worker in the unorganized sector and includes a worker in the organized sector who is not a member of ESIC or EPFO or not a Govt. employee.
- Age should be between 16-59 years.
- Should not be a member of EPFO/ESIC.
- Should not be an income tax payer.
Examples of unorganized workers include construction workers, migrant workers, street vendors, domestic workers, agricultural labourers, gig and platform workers, etc.
Documents Required for e-Shram Registration
- Aadhaar Number: Mandatory for registration.
- Mobile number linked with Aadhaar: For OTP verification. If the mobile is not linked with Aadhaar, the worker can visit the nearest CSC (Common Service Centre) for biometric authentication.
- Bank Account Details: Including account number, IFSC code, and bank name. This is required to link social security benefits directly to the worker's account. (Optional, but highly recommended for receiving benefits).
- Age: Must be between 16-59 years.
Important: No other documents are required for e-Shram registration. The process is free of cost.
